BAFF ‘s mission is to create sustainable employment for youth and thus to fight poverty. To achieve this mission the Building A Future Foundation aims at establishing a yachting industry in the island which was inexistant during the long lasting civil war.
Therefore, the Building A Future Foundation acts as a catalyst to introduce boat building, mast and sails making, chartering activities as well as building the necessary infrastructure (mini marinas) and the manufacturing of various products required for this industry. These economic activities are developed through the concept of social entrepreneurship and through North-South cooperation’s.
As an incubator of local companies, BAFF is at the initiative of the creation of 7 SME’s, social businesses (Mirissa Water Sports) and traditional businesses. During an incubation period of about 3 years, BAFF provides its support in HR, marketing, accounting, … Once the company is break even and is ready to be managed without BAFF’s assistance, it becomes 100% financially and legally independent from the Foundation.
These commercial and non-commercial activities are generator of sustainable employment for the benefit of the local population, especially youth.
