ACHIEVEMENTS 2006-2010

To train 180 youths from the southern coast of Sri Lanka to give them the tools to find a sustainable employment.

 

ü 200 youth trained and employed.

 

To set up 3 commercial entities on the model of the social business to employ trained youth.

ü 3 social businesses created.

To develop 2 innovative fishing boats with sails and engine propulsion for high seas fishing and to industrialize the final versions.

ü 1 trimaran prototype built & tested and under industrialisation.

ü 1 catamaran prototype under construction.

To retrofit existing engine driven one day fishing vessels with mast and sails.

ü 15 existing fishing vessels retrofitted with mast & sails + its promotions at various events and in several harbors.

 

To train 300 underprivileged children from fisheries communities in sailing activities with 10 clubs along the southern coast.

ü 180 children trained.

ü Creation of 1 non-profit spinoff with

5 sailing clubs.

 

 

 

In 2011-2012, BAF Foundation Sri Lanka intends to:

    • Support the social businesses to help it become self-sufficient and fully autonomous enhancing employment security to youth from the local communities of the area.
    • Create 3 antennas of the non-profit spin off to provide free of charge sailing classes to 300 children.
    • Complete the 14 m catamaran prototype boat, test it and finalize the plans in view of industrialization.


Financing to achieve the above objectives will be provide by BAFF’s commercial spin offs and by private and public donations.
